I wanted to do something “special” to mark Superior Spider-Man month beyond just writing about all the new titles Marvel is currently pumping out. While I’ve recently started to retro-review/wax poetic about some story-arcs in full (as opposed to what I was doing when I first launched Chasing Amazing, which was posts focusing solely on my personal connection/memory of an individual issue of Amazing Spider-Man), I’m yet to examine a true long-term arc that lasted beyond just a couple of issues. I wanted whatever I ended up writing about to have some relevance to events of the Superior Spider-Man and then settled on spotlighting Roger Stern’s “Original Hobgoblin Saga” from 1983-84. The fact that the story is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year is pure gravy.
Stern’s Original Hobgoblin run is considered one of the greatest Spider-Man stories of all time. For clarity’s sake, I’ll be featuring Amazing Spider-Man #238-239, 244-245, 249-251 and Spectacular Spider-Man #85. Expect this feature to run every Thursday for the next 8 weeks while Monday will continue to be “new issues” day around here and every other day will be whatever I feel like writing (or not writing for that matter)! I’m going to tag all of these posts as “Original Hobgoblin Saga” and link to it at the end of each article for your reference.
Hope you all have as much fun revisiting this storyline as I intend to. And if this long-form series of posts is deemed successful by you (and me), I hope to do it again with another storyline in the future.
You’re right in my wheelhouse now!
Hope I live up to expectations!
